New Year, New Goals
Elizabeth Smith ’29
It’s 2026, and with a new year comes a chance to set new goals. While some students may feel pressured to completely rebrand themselves, real growth takes time. Often, the most successful goals come from patience, consistency, and ambition. Here are a few visions to focus on in 2026 while still maintaining a healthy balance as a student here at BHSEC.
First and foremost, stay motivated to learn. This may sound predictable, but shifting your focus from grades to seeking genuine understanding can completely change your approach to school. Grades matter, but they should not be the sole purpose of your work. Learning for yourself creates curiosity, mistakes, and confidence.
At the same time, don’t let school consume your entire life. While academics are very important, don't lose sight of the things that make you who you are. Make time for the activities that help you recharge. That could be journaling, drawing, practicing an instrument, playing a sport, or simply spending time with friends and family. Even small habits, like setting aside a weekend for a hobby, can create a bigger impact. It’s never too late to rediscover your interests; if anything, the time is now! The only dreams that are impossible are the ones that you don't aim for.
Most importantly, these goals are for you. Move at your own pace, keep an open mind, and work towards becoming the best version of yourself.
