Come to the Writing Center!

Alexa David-Lang ‘22

Hello everyone, today I’m going to talk to you about the Writing Center. If you don’t already know, the Writing Center is an awesome part of BHSEC that lets you go to upperclassmen to get help with your essays and any other writing pieces you are working on. The Writing Center consists of a group of Year 1s and Year 2s who are trained by the head of the Writing Center, Ms. Randall, about how to help students with grammar, theses, outlining, and more, to make sure they can offer you the best possible writing support.

Because this year is insane and school has had to make adjustments, the Writing Center tutors haven’t been able to spread the word as easily. So for your convenience, here is a guide to the Writing Center.

HOW TO SIGN UP FOR THE WRITING CENTER:

Step 1: Realize that your America's essay is not at all going how you thought it would and have a minor panic attack.

Step 2: Decide to go to the Writing Center for help because - fun fact - many of these tutors have had whatever teacher you have right now and know what they want and how to help you.

Step 3: Go to the Fall 2020 Tutoring Schedule to find a time when you are free and find a tutor who is available at that time*.

*Note that even if you can’t find someone who is free when you are or you just really want a specific tutor who isn’t tutoring when you’re free, feel free to email them. Most tutors have flexible schedules and if you just ask, they’ll probably be able to meet another time. If not, they can refer you to another tutor.

Step 4: Go to the list of Tutors’ Emails where you will find a list of all of the tutors as well as their emails.

Step 5: Email your tutor of choice and they will get back to you with a Zoom link for your meeting.

See? It’s as easy as pie! If you’re having trouble with a writing piece, which I know you are because this is Bard and we stress over everything, then come to the Writing Center and we’ll fix you right up! Don’t need a tutor right now? Totally fine! Just save those links and send them to your friends to see if they need help. Email us whenever you need help and we’ll do the best we can to get you a grade that you’re happy with from the teacher whose standards just seem to be impossible.
